TL011: “Height Up, Height Down”

The base on which this lamp rests is a B-size pulley used on a conveyor belt in a feed store near Queenstown, New Zealand. The faucet is an original circa 1950s Jenkin's Brothers, Montreal, 3/8" inline globe valve fitted with a high strength bonnet necessary in applications involving ultra-high fluid pressures.

Each and every Jenkin's faucet has an individual stamp of approval on the base certifying that it passed the most rigorous factory testing. The pipe work features a capped outlet at the right hand top of the lamp, initially because Gareth wanted to allow for the possibility of extending the limits of the lamp during its creation. However, when the lamp evolved into its present form, he realised it was perfectly balanced as it was and needed nothing further.
